[What do you mean "trying" to?! It's happening right here and now!]
You always were fast on the uptake.
[Efficient and prepared, even if he did sometimes think of others more than himself. Bakugo's not about to walk over there and judge the quality of whatever Izuku got... though it's somewhat tempting.
Then next part gets a hard glare at the phone. He's not worrying about shit! ... He says while definitely checking on Izuku.]
Urusei.
We get a stipend each month and bonus cash for wrecking the kaiju or doing other odd jobs for these people.
[If Bakugo thinks for a minute that the items he got are anything less then cheap and serviceable for the job they need to do, he's going to be disappointed.]
I know about the stipend. But odd jobs? What sort of jobs are they and where can I find them?
[Being a 'student' as a part of his civilian identity didn't offer any pathway to income. He'd already been thinking of getting a part time job to help himself financially.]
[He knows enough about Izuku to be more irritated that the expectation wasn't betrayed than disappointed Izuku stuck to the same pattern he always had. Then again, it's not like Bakugo's out here stuffing his room with expensive shit.
He's smart with his money.]
Some Outsiders work in restaurants, others opened shops. I work on the police force.
[The last part's pretty damn proud of himself too. It's the closest thing to being a hero he can be without having "hero" as an occupation here.]
[The police are stretched thin as it is, considering the population is down to 30% of what it used to be. That'd strain any faction.
Yeah, it'd be strange in a normal setting for a teenager to waltz into the police force without even having high school under their belt. But considering all the preparation and training U.A. gave them... Bakugou basically demanded the job.]
If I'm old enough to fight world-ending monsters, I'm old enough to fuck up a petty criminal.
[The jury is still out on whether U.A. basically conscripted children soldiers like Dabi said or if the students themselves volunteered. Katsuki wouldn't have let them keep him out of the fight, especially since he and his classmates already had their "fuck you rules" when they went after Izuku in the interim.]
[An astonishing list, especially since it's only been a handful of months since Bakugo's arrival. It's clear that he's been keeping busy, which isn't surprising at all. He's always had a good work ethic.
But. One sticks out in particular.]
They let you drive the patrol car???
[So much excitement from a guy who can fly. But he's never driven a car before. He doesn't even have a learner's permit yet!]
[The city's trying to survive in a world where kaiju attacks happen almost every other month, to say nothing of weird events going on with similar frequency. That kind of world doesn't make for a damn utopia. Hell, it makes an even more "my myself and i" mentality that can make criminal actions more attractive.
And let's face it, no matter where they are or what circumstances, people are scum.
Oh is THAT the part that sticks out?]
OF COURSE THEY DO!! I'M FUCKING 17!!
[Yeah, Katsuki was super excited to demand driving lessons immediately. Screw the fact he can fly. Screw the fact he has no permit. If he's old enough to blow up criminals for you, he's old enough to drive for you.
[And what follows probably makes a little more sense.]
I'm interested in trying things. Something that doesn't have us doing hero work unless it falls into our laps. Would you like to? We could go for a planned outing, or just walk around until we find something to do.
[That is certainly direct, if a bit misleading. He's grateful for the follow-up before he could get the wrong idea.
...But he's definitely still blushing a bit as he types his reply.]
I would love to hang out with you, Todoroki. Is there something in particular that you're interested in doing? Have you gotten a chance to see much of the city yet?
[Just the hazards of having Todoroki as a friend. Impromptu proposals.]
Yes. Getting settled in here has left me little time to see you and Bakugo. So I would like to, also.
I haven't seen much, I've gone to specific places, but not too many of them. Maybe wandering would be a good idea after all? We could find somewhere to get something to drink along the way, maybe hot chocolate if we can find it. I've gone to the movies, but I'm also interested in going again. What kind of movies do you like, Midoriya?
Wandering is fine with me. I've done a little exploring around the city, but not much. Mostly it was just shopping for necessities. I haven't been to the movies yet. I enjoy action movies and comedies the most. What about you?
Let's walk around then, until we find something we want to go in and see. Even if it's not shopping for actual windows, we can do something called window shopping.
We have action that in common. I like any movie that's got a tactical feature that I can keep practice with, also. I'm most interested in finding a movie called "Scream" someone told me about. I looked but I'm not sure that it's here. We could look for a comedy, if we walk passed the theatre and you see something interesting.
Sounds good to me. I'm not sure if we'll find any movies we're familiar with here. But something called Scream has to be a scary movie. Do you like that kind of thing Todoroki?
[For some reason he didn't figure Shouto for a horror guy.]
No. I don't, but they do offer tactical thinking in the way that I can recreate what would be better to have been done in that situation. Even if I don't enjoy the way things come out of nowhere. Or the loud sounds associated with those moments. Or the unnecessary screaming. Or the use of intimacies. Or the death of certain characters who shouldn't otherwise have been killed if the movie were realistic. Or that the killer can never be out run. Or that their weapons are sometimes just as unrealistic. Or that people open doors knowing that the person on the other side couldn't be the person they're opening to.
[You know, a normal amount of things regarding a movie genre that he is seeking out.]
[He's never given that much consideration to a horror movie before. Nor has he ever thought about examining them from a tactical standpoint. They actually freak him out, whether slasher flicks or ghost stories. But coming from Todoroki he can't say he's surprised by his line of thinking. That's just the way he is.]
Of course we'll have fun. We'll pick a movie that we can both enjoy. Just...probably not a horror movie. I know it's not real, but they make me a bit jumpy.
[And give him nightmares. He usually tries not to mention it because he knows people will tease him about it. But Todoroki is different. He doesn't think he's going to judge him for being easily scared of something like that.]
@Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight --- [text]
[There was zero agreement on that, or even bringing it up, but that's Katsuki for you. Dodging the reality he cares.]

I must have forgotten.
[Or it never happened.]
Did you need something Kacchan?
[Something he couldn't just tell him face-to-face?]
no subject
Don't forget next time!
[Because obviously they'll be yanked off to another world on an annual basis.]
Food clothes bedding money! Did you get settled in or do you need anything, dammit?
[Couldn't be caught dead stopping by to ask face to face.]
no subject
I don't need anything. I went shopping and bought the necessities already.
[A blanket, some toiletries and a few changes of clothes bought for cheap at a thrift store. It's enough to get by on for now.
He heavily debates leaving the next part out but...its not like they're in the same room.]
Thanks for worrying about me. =)

Wait, what was that?]
They let you join the police force?
[He's not so much surprised that Bakugo is working as a cop as he is that they let a teen have that job.
Desperate times.]no subject
Honestly he's surprised the other boy hadn't asked about something like that already.]
HAA?! Why the fuck wouldn't they let me?! I'm stronger than all of them put together!
[Of course he'd take that innocent question as a sleight to his strength. Typical. (And yeah, desperate times + Outsider strength.)]
no subject
But it's not like even in their world it's normal for a teen who hasn't graduated high school to join the police. Or be a fully licensed hero.]
Right. I just thought there might be an age limit or something.

[It's not as if the pro heroes had been able to keep the U.A. students out of the fight when it came down to it. Desperate times and all that.]
I'm sure you're doing a great job Kacchan.
[Accept the positive reinforcement. Accept iiittt.]
no subject
Of course I'm doing excellent!
[Stroke his ego more.]
It's not the same as villains though.
no subject
[Unless some ability wielding Outsider is looking to get arrested.]
What kind of cases have you worked on? If you can tell me the details.
no subject
[And that's the better nights. Often its petty crimes and idiots. So far no Outsider has gone criminal.]
Robberies, traffic violations, a few suicide attempts, idiots getting into fights at bars. One high speed chase. That was fucking fun.
[Go figure; he likes the adrenaline pumpers.]
no subject

I am learning how to be more direct and less robotic.
[Guess who told him that.]
So I'm asking you out. Will you go out with me?

I'm interested in trying things. Something that doesn't have us doing hero work unless it falls into our laps. Would you like to? We could go for a planned outing, or just walk around until we find something to do.

Thank you for always working so hard, Izuku.
Please remember to take some time just for yourself. And never hesitate to reach out for help.
